Children Keep Us on our Toes

I woke up this morning to the beautiful sound of rain and the house was extremely dark around 6:45am. Not to mention all the children were still sleeping quietly. What a perfect way to start the morning...digging into some NCLEX questions.

My oldest comes in around 8:30am asking if we are going to the march in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Having already decided that I was not going anywhere due to rain and NCLEX crunch time, hell down right laziness - I quickly jumped down her throat as she proceded to frown because she couldn't have her way. I mean when do kids stop thinking about themselves?! For some reason my conscious always jumps in to correct me first. Was she being selfish? Or should she be congratulated for wanting to be part of something greater than herself? The older she gets the more I see myself in her. Im proud of her for putting me in check this morning because reality is that its my responsibility to teach them Dr. King's legacy, show selflessness, and our continuous struggle for equality (financial and social). So we are getting up this morning and heading to the festival.
