Society often doesnt talk about the grieving and infant loss. September was Infant Mortality month and ICTC created the "Heads Up" campaign.




Goal: Create crochet/knitting groups to make a hat for every baby lost

Chunky Babies

As a mother, doula, nursing student, and future midwife, I have to say that chunky babies ROCK!! We live in a society that is obsessed with appearance and skinny is in. But in the birthing world I have to say its just the opposite. For us, chunky babies mean healthy...full-term...one less infant mortality story...and most times breastfed babies. After all breastfeeding is the BEST food, right?!

Here are the stats for Arizona's Babies:
25% cesarean rate
11:1000 infant mortality rate for Black babies
19% Black babies preterm
12.3% Black babies low birth weight
Mothers under 20 and over 40 have the highest infant mortality rates in this group

Black babies in Arizona have the highest infant mortality rate, so there is great reason to be excited about an 8lb baby with all the rolls you can stand born at 41wks gestation.
