What they don't tell you

What would I do without the internet I sometimes wonder? I spent at least 2hrs researching breastpumps this morning when I came across a discussion group. One lady said that she got a pump through her insurance company because they said it would reduce healthcare costs since breastmilk is filled with natural antibodies. Of course this was BCBS insurance so I automatically doubted that my state insurance would do the same. I called APIPA today and the representative told me to contact my doctor because it DOES fall under "durable medical equipment", but that the doctor has to contact "preferred homecare" to make any possible arrangements!!! I am super excited about the possiblities being that an electric pump costs up to $400 and I am a non-working full time nursing student with 3 children supported by my husbands behavioral health salary. Unfortunately its Sunday so the doctors office is not open of course. This definitely puts a hault to my hopes, but I just had to share this with fellow breastfeeding mothers that are forced to leave their babies for the outside world. I will, however, update tomorrow on the outcome. Does the AZ state care about breastfeeding babies as much as BCBS???
