How much is your soul worth?

In my 3rd day of lock down from the flu, I sat down to watch Oprah yesterday and it was the BOMB. I mean all the things I ever thought were presented on stage. Real quick...the whole firing of IMUS has struck a revolution of sorts so Oprah had a panel to discuss "whats next". Of course it ventured into hip hop culture and how they personify women - you know skantily clade "bitches, hoes, and fine dime breezzies."

There were some very profound saying and analogies shared too. It made me think, somehow we all play a part. Yes these rap artists and tv shows exploit women and sex for a dollar. Thats what capitalism is all about - exploitation right? The question is, "how much are you willing to sell your soul for just to make a dollar?" Now of course thats easier said than done for someone coming out of poverty who never had anything and is blessed with this tool. Someone offers them a deal and they use the tool at whatever cost. I get it I understand it, BUT I have two daughters! Even if I had a son I would still have a problem. We as a community have to start reaching out to our youth like in the old days "each one teach one" right.

For those who listen to the music:
would you want your sons to call their mother, sister, grandmother, wife a BITCH?
Would you want you daughter to settle for a man that pet names her "breezie or hoe" (and potentially beats her behind closed doors?"

Although I was more of a bookworm in highschool and college, I still liked to get my groove on. I admit to dancing to Luke on the dance floor. When the song came on we were like a swarm of honey bees waiting to give up the nectar because we thought it was FUN. I am just as much to blame because I was saying its ok to make the music. So today I say, my soul is worth my children's life and respect for others.
